Question: Will I get a diploma /certificate if I study at your school?
Answer: Yes. CBEI is registered with Private Post Secondary Education Commission of BC to issue certificates and diplomas for its programs. A certificate is available for studies of 1-5 months in the GEP or EWB program. A diploma is available for studies of 6 months or longer in the GEP or EWB program, when a student reaches an upper-intermediate to advanced level of English language proficiency, has completed all assignments and has an excellent attendance record.

Question: Do you teach computer classes?
Answer: No. You will use computers in your course work but the emphasis at CBEI is on learning English. There is a computer orientation on intake day, and self-study computer materials are available for students who want extra computer practice. The computers are used as a tool for class presentations. The lab is open to students in the morning, during, and after school.

Question: Will I have to take a test, even if I already have a TOEFL/TOEIC score?
Answer: Yes. Our entrance test includes a TOEFL style test, a written composition and an oral interview. If you are already in Vancouver, you can make an appointment to take this test before you register. Or you can take the level test on the first day of school.

Question: What if the program is too difficult for me?
Answer: Unless you are an absolute beginner with no English experience, CBEI has a level for you. We have several levels, from upper-beginner to advanced. Our level test is not a pass-or-fail test; it is a test to check which level is best for the student. Students can take the free no-obligation level test before registering.

Question: How fast can I move up from level to level?
Answer: It takes 3 months to complete all business topics at one level. Most students take 3 months to complete one full level. However, teachers assess your progress every month. It is possible to move up a level even after only one month in the program, depending on your progress and your teachers’ recommendations.

Question: Can I change programs?
Answer: Yes, depending on available space in the program you can transfer. We need at least 2-4 weeks notice and you will need to pay any extra fees if they are applicable. There are no refunds for changing programs.

Question: Do you have part-time or evening programs?
Answer: We have part time optional courses that begin after regularly scheduled classes for our students. We do not have part time evening programs for international students.

Question: Is it okay if I have no business experience?
Answer: CBEI’s main focus is teaching English. It is not necessary to have previous business experience, however it is helpful if you are going to study in the English for Work and Business program. We specialize in teaching English through business-related topics, and focus on English needed for business situations.

Question: Will I need medical coverage?
Answer: Yes, you will need medical coverage. You can purchase medical insurance in your own country before you come to Canada, or CBEI can provide you with information on where to purchase it in Vancouver. The cost of medical insurance in Vancouver is approximately $2-3/day depending on the type of coverage and your age.

Question: Do you offer scholarships?
Answer: CBEI sometimes offers scholarships for specific events or occasions. When we do this, they are widely publicized.
